When it all started
The ANDORRA Scout Ski Trips started in 2005 when Network member Oli Lewis invited his friends & other members of the Sarum Scout Network in Salisbury, Wiltshire to join him & his ski instructor dad Pete on a ski trip to the Pyrenees.
Since then we have returned to Andorra almost every year, and in the spirit of what Oli & his dad began, we have invited more and more Scouters, Explorers, friends and family to join us to experience the wonderful atmosphere, world class skiing, interesting history, economical prices, quiet slopes, amazing food, wonderfully friendly atmosphere and great weather Andorra has to offer!
Meet the Team:
John Fry
The main organiser of our little ski trips is John, who was a best friend of Oli Lewis and on board from the first mention of Scouts skiing!
John is a professional cameraman and filmmaker, an Explorer Scout Leader, and a CSIA level 1 ski instructor (having qualified a year or two ago in Andorra). For work John films ski videos and corporate films, plus some features and TV with his big Steadicam.
Since 2007, a momentous year for the Scout movement, John, Pete and other keen Sarum Network members have run at least one ski trip every year. Not always to Andorra though! We have also visited the Three Valleys and Portes Du Soleil in the French Alps, and John has skied in several other European resorts for work, but nowhere has everything like Andorra does – the charm, variety of slopes, great weather, fabulous apres ski, extra activities, value for money and such friendly atmosphere as the principality in the Pyrenees.
Oliver Lewis
Oli is the reason we went to Andorra in the first place, and the reason we try to make each trip as special as we can to as many as would like to try out skiing.
He was the most generous, warm hearted, fun and relaxed chap anyone could ever wish to meet, and his influence continues through our Scout Ski Trips.
Devastatingly, Oli was killed in 2007 in an accident, just a month from his 21st birthday. His loss is a constant reminder to those who knew him of the importance of living in the moment, inspiring others, and just being excellent to one another. We will miss him always, but his legacy lives on in the fun he introduced us to and we continue to share with others in Andorra.
Peter McCulloch
Oli’s dad was an instructor in Andorra, who facilitated our first trips, taught us to ski and even let us stay in his flat! Pete’s amazing outlook on life is inspiring, and his incredible encouragement on the piste kept us improving that first year at such a rate that a return trip was inevitable!
Although Pete only now joins our trips occasionally, it is his and Oli’s spirit and attitude that infiltrate every part of our trips, and continue to inspire us to introduce more friends & Scouters to the wonderful world of skiing!
Mark ‘the Shark’ Warner & ‘DJ’ Dave Hillier
Mark is one of our keenest skiers, an Explorer Scout Leader and works in retail. He first joined us in 2006 and has never looked back since! Mark’s boundless enthusiasm is always uplifting, and his partying prowess is only beaten by his apparent ability to survive unscathed through any & all adversity on the slopes!
DJ Dave is the socialite of the Andorra trips, not only partying hard and making many new friends each year, but also presenting some of our videos, and even getting on the microphone in some of our favourite Soldeu hotspots!
